Understanding The 3 Main Types Of Poker Tables

Today, we are going to help you decide what types of poker tables would best suit your needs and budget. There are three main types, deluxe poker tables, a folding poker table, and a poker table top.

What Features Do You Need?

Before choosing the style of poker table that's best for you, you need to figure out what features you need first.
Do you need drink holders? Do you plan on allowing people to drink around your new table? Most people enjoy having drink holders on their poker table, but some owners would prefer that drinking and snacking be done away from their table in order to avoid stains and spills on their table, cards, and poker chips.
Do you need a dealer position? Most home poker players prefer poker tables without a dealer position. Poker tables with a dealer position are designed for games where the dealer that does not participate in the game. This feature is great for some tournaments or casinos, but most home games have the players take turns dealing and do not require a dealer position on their table.

What Type Of Table Is Best Suited For Your Needs?

Poker Table Top - A poker table top is basically a poker table without legs. The poker table top is simply placed on top of an existing table to transform it into a temporary poker table. These products are great because of their low cost and easy storage. The downside is that you need to have an existing table that is similar in size and you may have some problems with the table top sliding around during the game. The sliding problem can be minimized if you lay down a piece of rubber before putting the table top in place.
Folding Poker Table - A folding poker table is a full size poker table with legs that fold up so that the table can be stored easily when it's not in use. These types of tables are great for players that just don't have the space to have a permament poker table setup in their homes. They are also several hundred (or even thousand) dollars cheaper than a more permanent deluxe poker table. The downside of these table is that the legs are not as sturdy as a permanent table and they lack the beauty that a deluxe poker table can provide.
Deluxe Poker Tables - Deluxe poker tables are full size poker tables that are permanently setup in your home. These tables are the most expensive types of table, but they also offer many different styles such as wood or marble that can really beautify your home. These table are the best option if your budget and space allows.

How To Keep a Poker Face

PokerFaceImage via Wikipedia
Learning how to keep a poker face is critical to improving your poker game. Use these five tips get your poker face in tip top shape.
  1. Keep your face serious. Having a serious expression on your face tends to give other players the impression that you know what you are doing. Whether you have a good hand, bad hand, or you are not sure what to expect. Keep your facial expression serious. This will also help you avoid giving away how good (or bad) your hand is to the other players.

  2. Watch your body language. Do you have a nervous tick when you are bluffing? Do you act overly confident when you have a good hand? Does your leg twitch when you are nervous? What are your eyes doing when you bet? You need to monitor everything you do when you play poker. Keep that body language in check. No matter what your hand looks like, make sure you act the same each and every play.

  3. Watch how you place your bets. If you have a great hand, don't throw your bet down to quickly. If you are not sure if you should bet or not, don't hesitate to long. These types of behaviors can give away your hand to the other players. Think ahead before your turn to bet comes up so you know what your play is going to be. Then you can keep your betting behaviors consistent so that other players can't figure you out.

  4. Keep your eyes in check. To keep a poker face consistent, you either need to always look your opponent in the eyes on each play, or never look your opponent in the eyes. Flipping back and forth between these behaviors can give you away. On a side note. Statistically speaking, a players eyes will dilate about 45% when they look at something they like. Use this to your advantage and hide your eyes when you see a good flop. And keep watch on your opponents eyes to see when they are dilating.

  5. Watch what you say. Silence is golden in the game of poker. Words can give away your play. If you are playing a serious game, it's best not to talk at all.

Following these five tips are a great starting point on how to keep a poker face. If you are playing a really serious game and need some help hiding your tells. Consider wearing a ball cap and sunglasses.

Ten Poker Bluffing Tips You Ought To Know

BluffingImage by Kaptain Kobold via Flickr
Poker bluffing is a great way to win more money in poker, if you know how to do it right. These ten tips are presented by Poker Tables Depot to help you rake in more cash in you next game.
  1. Bluff when it looks like someone could have a good hand. Take a look the cards the dealer has flipped on the table. If it is possible to have a good hand based on what you see on the table, now might be a good time to bluff. Just be careful though, someone may actually have that good hand. Keep an eye on your opponents. If they aren't betting strongly, now might be a good time for you to bluff.

  2. Poker bluffing is a great technique when other players appear to have a bad hand. Watch how everyone is acting. If you are playing with less experienced players, they could be making obvious signs that their hand is weak. Look for things like hesitancy when betting, or facial signs that show some distress or uncertainty. By betting strong when others have a weak hand, you are in fact encouraging them to fold.

  3. Take advantage of novice players that are betting big a bit to often. Chances are that they are bluffing more than they should. As soon as you have a strong hand. Bet big and put them in their place.

  4. Other players will likely make a mental note of your most recent bluff. Don't bluff again to soon or they may call you on it. Of course, if you get a strong hand right after you have bluffed, this can certainly work to your advantage. Try to pull others into the hand by making them think you are bluffing again. You can pull in a larger pot that way.

  5. Poker bluffing tends to work better with tight tables (tables with players that are playing cautiously). Loose players (players that play more aggresively) will tend to call your bluff more often than tight players. You might want to hold back on bluffing until any loose players at the table have folded or are out of the game.

  6. Bluffing works better in high, or no limit games. If the betting limit is low, there is little advantage to bluffing since you don't stand to gain a whole lot. Also, it's hard to scare other players into folding if you can only bet a small amount. Bluffing usually takes a big bet to get other players to fold.

  7. Bluff from a late position only. If you bluff to early, you run the risk of someone else having a strong hand. Wait to see if other players are checking and folding. This usually indicates that their hands are weak and presents a good opportunity for you to bluff and take the pot.

  8. Successful poker bluffing requires you to stay randam. Don't bluff to often and don't develop a pattern for bluffing. Keep other players on their toes and keep switching up your plays. You don't want anyone else to figure out your game and take you down.

  9. Be careful around inexperienced or bad poker players. Bluffing may not intimidate them and they may keep on playing even though you are portraying that you have a very strong hand. The card or cards they need might just show up on the turn or the river.

  10. Be careful playing good bluff situations too often. A particular scenario is before the flop. You are on of the last betters and most other players have folded or checked. If you always bet strong in this situation, other players might pick up on this pattern and take you down. Don't always take advantage of what looks to be a good bluffing opportunity.

Poker bluffing is an essential skill to learn if you want to increase your winnings. Use these ten tips to your advantage.

A Beginners Guide To Blinds

Big BlindImage by .Alwin. via Flickr
In Texas Holdem Poker, the big and little blind are the required bets that must be made in every hand of the poker game. These bets are called the blind bets because they must be made before the players are able to see the 'flop' of the first three cards by the dealer. The blind bets are predetermined amounts. Small blind is always half the amount of the big blind bet. Usually, the larger the stakes of the game, the higher the blind bets are.

The blind positions rotate with each deal. If you do not have dedicated dealer for your game, the person to the left of the dealer at the poker table is usually the 'small blind' and the person to the left of the small blind is the 'big blind' bet.

All other players at the poker table must match the big blind or fold if they wish to stay in the game and see the flop of the first three cards by the dealer.

One thing that often happens to new players is that they feel the need to defend their blind bets. They often continue to bet even on a poor hand just because they already have money in the pot. This is a poor strategy. The blinds are forced bets and you should not adjust your playing strategy just because you were forced to put money into the pot. If you have a bad hand - fold! Unless of course you plan on bluffing :).

The only exception I would make to this rule is if you are the small blind, and no raises have been made on the big blind bet. Since it won't cost you much extra to see the flop, go ahead and match the big blind bet to stay in the game. Once you see the flop, then you can better analyze if it's worth throwing any more chips on the poker table.

Understanding The Different Types of Poker Chip Sets

poker chip bridgeImage by limowreck666 via Flickr
Poker chip sets come in all kinds of styles and materials. With the large selection available, it's hard to know what kind of chips to buy. We're here to help you decide what will suit you the best.

The first thing to consider is how many poker chips you need. Most sets come with at least 100 chips. But your needs will vary. Base your decision on how many players you expect to be hosting. The rule of thumb is a minimum of 40-50 chips per player, but to make life easier, it's best to have 75 - 100 chips per person. These extra chips will help cover extra players that might show up, and it will avoid players having to trade chips among each other during the game.

Now that you know how many chips you need, let's take a few minutes to examine the 3 main types of poker chip sets available on the market:

1. Composite Poker Chips

Composite poker chips can be made of plastic, or a mixture of plastic and clay or other materials. Plastic poker chips offer the look at feel of the traditional clay poker chips at a fraction of the cost. If you are on a budget. Composite poker chips are the way to go.

2. Nexgen Poker Chips

Nexgen is a brand name of chips. Nexgen poker chips are made of a composite material, but they have added a metal insert and they use a unique manufacturing process to give their chips the look and feel of clay poker chips at a much lower cost. If you would love to have the traditional clay chips, but can't justify the cost. We highly recommend trying a set of Nexgen poker chips.

3. Clay Poker Chips

Clay poker chips are the traditional types of chips that many casinos use. Based on the name, you probably guessed that clay chips are made of clay. Clay chips are highly sought after by serious poker players who demand the best. Paulson poker chips are one of the biggest names out there for clay poker chips.

These chips are expensive to make, and are one of the most expensive types of chips you can buy. If you demand the best for your home poker games, get yourself a set of clay poker chips.

How to Select the Best Poker Table for You

poker gameImage by scmtngirl via Flickr
Poker is one of the world’s most popular games. Who doesn’t love the company of their best friends, great food and their favourite card game? But in order to really enjoy a good game of poker at home, you need the right poker table.

There are dozens of different kinds of poker tables available these days. They come in all kinds of shapes, sizes and price ranges.

Many people are hesitant to buy a poker table for their home as they are concerned that it might not suit the interior style of their home. Usually, a poker table is not a piece of furniture that you would imagine as you are planning your home decor.

But with the advancement in technology and the availability of aesthetically pleasing poker tables, the notion that “a poker table belongs in the basement” is changing. These days, many people are putting them in a special room in their house or they use a folding poker table right in their living room.

When you are choosing a poker table, you should keep a few things in your mind. First, take your available space into account. Poker tables come in many sizes and these is sure to be something available that will suit your available space. If you don’t think you can fit a poker table into your home, a folding poker table might be the best option for you as they store easily and you can pull them out as needed.

A poker table can be used for more than just poker. They also work well for board games, and other card games.

In order to make sure your poker table is aesthetically suitable for your home, make sure that it is built and designed to suit the décor of your house. For example, if you have modern and metallic furniture, then metal poker tables are best for you.

If you have wooden and classic furniture in your home, then metal poker tables probably won’t be the best option for you. You should look for a wooden table that matches the other wood types in your home.
In order to make the poker table match the room, you can decorate the area that it’s kept in. We have unique poker lighting fixtures that you can mount above the poker table top and poker chips sets in attractive boxes. We even have other unique poker decor like bar stools, clocks and poker signs that can all enhance your gaming room.

Check out our many styles of poker tables (folding poker table, poker table top, professional poker tables). You are sure to find something to suit your needs.

Poker Tables Help Create The Perfect Home Game

at the back-room, upstairs, high-stakes, texas...Image by sean dreilinger via Flickr
Shopping around for poker tables so you can host your own game at home?

To help you run a great home poker game, take a look at these tips:

1. Make it as authentic as possible
. Real poker supplies can really help give your home game a great feel. Clay poker chips, professional poker tables, and official poker cards are ideal. For more cost effective options a folding poker table or poker table top, and Nexgen poker chips are great too!

2. Keep the limits reasonable. If you want to keep your gathering friendly, set the limits to something you think everyone will be able to manage without having to sacrifice their grocery or rent budgets. This will keep the game lighter and more friendly.

3. Get 'buy in' from other residents of your home before your start making arrangements. If your spouse, significant other, or roomate are on board ahead of time, it will save you a lot of headaches and will help ensure that the poker game goes without a hitch.

4. Take breaks every once in a while to keep the game fresh. This is also helpful if you want to keep drinks and snacks away from your poker tables.

5. If you are ok with snacking and drinking at your table, consider offering less greasy snacks
. The greasy snacks make handling cards and chips unpleasant.

6. Allow side games. Once players start getting knocked out of your main game, encourage them to start a new side game. It gets boring just standing around watching everyone else play.

How To Take Care of a Poker Table

Full Height Poker TableImage by Eli White via Flickr
You just spent some of your hard earned money on a new poker table, so now you want to make sure that it lasts as long as possible. Here are a few simple things you can do to take care of your new purchase.
  1. Keep it covered when it's not in use - A poker table cover is relatively cheap, but it can really help preserve your table. A cover will help prevent sun damage, keep the dust away, and help prevent scuffs and spills from damaging your table when it's not in use

  2. Use a fabric protector - Accidents happen. A good coating of something like Scotchguard can help prevent drink spills and stains from sinking in. Keep a damp cloth handy when your poker table is in use to make sure you can clean up those spills right away before they have a chance to sink in.

  3. Take care when moving your table - Some poker tables are quite heavy. It can be tempting to just push them along the floor when you need to move them around. This could lead to your table catching on anything hard sticking up from your floor like a loose floor nail or carpet staple. This will also put strain on the joints in your table. Picking it up when moving it can save you from a lot of potential damage. If you have a padded rail, just be careful moving your table around corners or other objects as they could end up tearing your rail.

  4. Keep lit cigarettes away from the table - The felt and railing material used on poker tables isn't fire proof. It only takes one smoldering ash to put a burn hole on your table.

  5. Keep it dry if you need to store it - If you need to store your table for a while, try to avoid keeping it in a damp basement or other storage area. This could lead to mold getting into the wood and felt of the table which is very difficult to get rid of.
There you have it. It's not a big list, but if you follow these simple steps, you should get many years of use out of your new table.
