Understanding The 3 Main Types Of Poker Tables

Today, we are going to help you decide what types of poker tables would best suit your needs and budget. There are three main types, deluxe poker tables, a folding poker table, and a poker table top.

What Features Do You Need?

Before choosing the style of poker table that's best for you, you need to figure out what features you need first.
Do you need drink holders? Do you plan on allowing people to drink around your new table? Most people enjoy having drink holders on their poker table, but some owners would prefer that drinking and snacking be done away from their table in order to avoid stains and spills on their table, cards, and poker chips.
Do you need a dealer position? Most home poker players prefer poker tables without a dealer position. Poker tables with a dealer position are designed for games where the dealer that does not participate in the game. This feature is great for some tournaments or casinos, but most home games have the players take turns dealing and do not require a dealer position on their table.

What Type Of Table Is Best Suited For Your Needs?

Poker Table Top - A poker table top is basically a poker table without legs. The poker table top is simply placed on top of an existing table to transform it into a temporary poker table. These products are great because of their low cost and easy storage. The downside is that you need to have an existing table that is similar in size and you may have some problems with the table top sliding around during the game. The sliding problem can be minimized if you lay down a piece of rubber before putting the table top in place.
Folding Poker Table - A folding poker table is a full size poker table with legs that fold up so that the table can be stored easily when it's not in use. These types of tables are great for players that just don't have the space to have a permament poker table setup in their homes. They are also several hundred (or even thousand) dollars cheaper than a more permanent deluxe poker table. The downside of these table is that the legs are not as sturdy as a permanent table and they lack the beauty that a deluxe poker table can provide.
Deluxe Poker Tables - Deluxe poker tables are full size poker tables that are permanently setup in your home. These tables are the most expensive types of table, but they also offer many different styles such as wood or marble that can really beautify your home. These table are the best option if your budget and space allows.

How To Keep a Poker Face

PokerFaceImage via Wikipedia
Learning how to keep a poker face is critical to improving your poker game. Use these five tips get your poker face in tip top shape.
  1. Keep your face serious. Having a serious expression on your face tends to give other players the impression that you know what you are doing. Whether you have a good hand, bad hand, or you are not sure what to expect. Keep your facial expression serious. This will also help you avoid giving away how good (or bad) your hand is to the other players.

  2. Watch your body language. Do you have a nervous tick when you are bluffing? Do you act overly confident when you have a good hand? Does your leg twitch when you are nervous? What are your eyes doing when you bet? You need to monitor everything you do when you play poker. Keep that body language in check. No matter what your hand looks like, make sure you act the same each and every play.

  3. Watch how you place your bets. If you have a great hand, don't throw your bet down to quickly. If you are not sure if you should bet or not, don't hesitate to long. These types of behaviors can give away your hand to the other players. Think ahead before your turn to bet comes up so you know what your play is going to be. Then you can keep your betting behaviors consistent so that other players can't figure you out.

  4. Keep your eyes in check. To keep a poker face consistent, you either need to always look your opponent in the eyes on each play, or never look your opponent in the eyes. Flipping back and forth between these behaviors can give you away. On a side note. Statistically speaking, a players eyes will dilate about 45% when they look at something they like. Use this to your advantage and hide your eyes when you see a good flop. And keep watch on your opponents eyes to see when they are dilating.

  5. Watch what you say. Silence is golden in the game of poker. Words can give away your play. If you are playing a serious game, it's best not to talk at all.

Following these five tips are a great starting point on how to keep a poker face. If you are playing a really serious game and need some help hiding your tells. Consider wearing a ball cap and sunglasses.
